May 1, 2015 - May 2, 2015
Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center
1 Eagle Eyrie Drive
Lynchburg, VA 24503,
Theme: Faith Positive in a Negative World
Main Speaker: Joey Faucette
We are going to try a little different format this year. There is a popular video format that people watch online called TED Talks. Each talk is 18 minutes or less and focuses on different subjects in the business and technology world. We are going to create our “MED Talks” (Ministry, Evangelism, and Discipleship) Talks.
During each session we will have various speakers who will lead conversations about ministry for deacons, Bible study leaders, pastors. It will be fast paced and give lots of information to our leaders to hopefully encourage and prepare them for their ministry in their congregations.
Our one main speaker will take 20 minutes and then everything else will occur in either 5, 10, or 15 minutes segments. Rather than make people choose between breakouts, we thought this would give everyone the chance to hear everything even though it will be shorter in focus.
On Friday evening we will also share a new movie called When God Left the Building. This powerful movie parallels the closing of the Kodak Film Unit with the closing of local congregations. Hope is shared by profiling how one local congregation developed a new ministry for unreached persons outside the four walls of their church. We think this movie has great potential for helping churches have conversations about their future.
Our theme is Faith Positive in a Negative World. Our main speaker will be Dr. Joey Faucette, who co-authored this book with a former vice president at State Farm Mutual. They sought to address the importance of using our faith as a strong connector in the world in which we live – church and work life. (Read a conversation Dr. Faucette recently had with Baptists Today.)
We will begin with supper Friday evening. The program will begin at 6:30pm on Friday evening and go until about 10:00pm. Then Saturday will go from 8:30am until 12:00pm and finish with lunch.
Eagle Eyrie is handling all the registration details. The program fee for the weekend will be $39, which does not include Eagle Eyrie’s fees for lodging and meals.
