Meghan Young: Adjusting from Camper to Staff

impact mission campsThis is my sixth year being involved with Impact Virginia. I came five years as a camper, and this is my first year on staff. I love working with youth and have a passion for ministry and missions. During these mission trips, many people open their eyes to see that there are people struggling right next to them. It does not take a trip to a third world country or another state to have to make a difference.

I chose to spend my summer serving on staff to further the kingdom. I want to see lives changed and people impacted. Majoring in Youth Ministry to be a youth pastor, what better way to spend my summer than spending time with teens and helping them grow in their faith?

I want to see lives changed and people impacted.

As I prepare myself for this journey, I have been in prayer for numerous things. I pray for the homeowners that we will touch and help, for the campers who will come to camp, and for myself and my team as we prepare for camp and our hearts.

For some campers, this will be their first mission camp, or first time encountering God. I pray that their hearts and minds remain open to what God has to tell them and show them. I also pray that I will remain open and not pass up opportunities to share my faith and be a witness to someone.

I expect to be tested by God and to be used by Him. There will be days when I want to give up, but have 20 campers wanting to play a game. Times when I’m tired and restless, but I know I have to persevere. I want to be a light to those around me and have everything I do and say reflect the love of Jesus. I hope to get a taste of ministry and let my passion grow even stronger.

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all to the end of the age.’” (Matthew 28:18-20)

God has called us to make disciples of all nations, near and far. It is my goal for this summer, and in life, to further the kingdom and build up a new generation. A generation that can rely on God and serve him full heartily. I pray I can make a difference and show them to rely on the love of God, instead of the world.
