As we reflect on the year that is drawing to a close and look ahead to the year that awaits us, the local church continues to feel the effects of COVID-19 and make the necessary adjustments because of the virus’s impact on our communities. We have seen what we have always known—BGAV churches are creative and resilient in the midst of crisis and responsive to meeting the needs of those around us.
This year’s annual meeting was dramatically changed, as we held our first-ever virtual meeting. Your participation created an engaging event that highlighted the many ways BGAV churches and ministries have shifted and responded this year and how we plan to continue being a missionary movement of churches in 2021. The limitations of meeting virtually meant we were unable to conduct business, including voting on a budget. This means our current 2020 budget remains in place for 2021. Since our founding in 1823, Virginia Baptists have generously participated in a shared mission to live out the unfolding story of our faith in Jesus Christ. Your generosity and commitment to Cooperative Missions enables us to be uniquely positioned to fulfill our calling to advance the Redeemer’s Kingdom. You have so much to be proud of in the work the BGAV has accomplished thus far, and it is my hope and prayer you will come alongside your Virginia Baptist family and be part of a challenging and exciting 2021.
Rev. David Washburn is BGAV’s Treasurer.
