BGAV College Scholarship Recipient: Abby Kiss

Posted: 1/3/18 at 9:30am.

Abby Kiss is a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Callao, VA. She is a student at the University of Virginia, studying biomedical sciences.

Abby is one of the 2018-19 recipients of a BGAV college scholarship. Recounting her personal testimony of faith in Christ, she explained: “In 2008, following a week of church VBS, there were many things I was contemplating about God. One day, in the car, I heard the song, Amazing Love, and I was overwhelmed with the love of Jesus Christ. I realized his great sacrifice for me, and I wanted to accept his gift of eternal life, surrender my all to him, and allow him to enter my heart.”

BGAV ministries and ministry partners have played an important role in Abby’s life, particularly those that relate to cooperative missions. “One BGAV ministry partner that I have been blessed to work with frequently with is Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia,” she said.

“It interests me because I am able to participate in many different things, including serving on the Acteens’ Panelist Board, counseling at Crossroads Camp and Conference Center, and attending mission trips to Standing Rock and Romania. With the support of the BGAV, I am able to serve children, youth, and adults everywhere, all while expanding their faith—as well as mine.”

Through Cooperative Missions offerings, the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) provides scholarships and ministerial education funds for eligible Virginia Baptist students who need aid in financing their education. BGAV Scholarships and Ministerial Education Funds can help students earn an undergraduate degree, pursue undergraduate or graduate education in preparation for vocational ministry, or access training and continuing education opportunities.

Once each month, we are featuring a current-year scholarship recipient on our blog to help our readers get to know these promising students. Please pray for them as they study and seek to discern God’s will for their lives.
