BGAV Ministerial Scholarship Recipient: Chris Crowley

Posted: 10/2/18 at 7:00pm.

Chris Crowley is a member of Chamberlayne Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, where he serves as Director of Music Ministry. He is a student at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond (BTSR), where he is pursuing a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Religious Freedom.

Chris is one of the 2018-19 recipients of a BGAV scholarship for ministerial education funds. “I have been blessed both with musical and writing tools, and I hope to be able to use them both,” he explained.

He is particularly interested in the work of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, a ministry partner of the BGAV. “I envision a future where I continue to work both in church music, and if my pastor has his way, preaching on occasion. I also hope to work to help government, church, and education leaders understand their rights protected by the First Amendment.”

As Chris felt called to music ministry, he sought further education by enrolling at BTSR. “I claim no burning bush or Damascus road-type experience–just a lifetime of questioning and seeking that has led me to following Christ.”

Through Cooperative Missions offerings, the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) provides scholarships and ministerial education funds for eligible Virginia Baptist students who need aid in financing their education. BGAV Scholarships and Ministerial Education Funds can help students earn an undergraduate degree, pursue undergraduate or graduate education in preparation for vocational ministry, or access training and continuing education opportunities.

Once each month, we are featuring a current-year scholarship recipient on our blog to help our readers get to know these promising students. Please pray for them as they study and seek to discern God’s will for their lives.
