Roanoke, VA – For the third year in a row, the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) welcomed educational institutions as new partners at its annual meeting. Campbell University Divinity School in Buies Creek, NC, and Northern Seminary in Chicago, IL, were voted in as new partners.
“I am excited about the benefits we are already seeing with our current partnerships and these new partnerships,” John Upton, executive director said.
Each covenant specifies the values of the school and of the BGAV with ways that they will work together. Campbell University Divinity School and the BGAV will work together to promote the shared vision of “Kingdom Advance” through the development of leaders, support of churches, and ministry to the world. Dr. Andrew Wakefield, dean of the school, signed the covenant, saying “Our heart and passion is the church. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to partner with you.”
Upton introduced Northern Seminary, recognizing that Dr. Chris Cadenhead, senior pastor of the meeting’s host church, received a degree from there. Northern already has a BGAV connection, having worked with the V3 Church Planting Movement. This covenant will strengthen that relationship, centering around the priorities of Developing, Planting, and Sending. (Click here to read the full covenant)
Dr. William D. Shiell, president of the seminary, signed the covenant, saying that “on behalf of trustees and faculty, thank you so much to Virginia Baptists for this covenant partnership. You’ve taught us so much about what it means to work alongside the church.”
John Upton, BGAV Executive Director, reflected on these new covenant partnerships, explaining that “we are in covenant to be good partners with each other. In this day and time, isn’t it good to have good partners?”
