BWA World Congress: Rio 2020

JOIN US!!

Virginia Baptists are invited to attend the quinquennial BWA World Congress wvwnt, Rio 2020, from July 22-26 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Thousands of Baptists from across the globe will gather for five days of worship, fellowship, communion, and service. There is no other event quite like it!

Click on the link below to discover more information and to register for Rio 2020.  At a minimum, you will need to register for the event and make hotel and flight arrangements. Note that registration fees increase on December 1!

There are several packages listed below that you may find enjoyable if you want to add on to this experience.  They can also assist with basic hotel and flight plans. Itinerary 1, July 19 – 28

Rio de Janeiro

Day 1, Sun, July 19: Today we depart from the USA on our overnight flight.

Day 2, Mon, July 20: We arrive this morning in Rio, the so-called Marvelous City and the capital of Rio de Janeiro State and enjoy a special beach breakfast in Copa Cabana.

Day 3, Tue, July 21: We tour the Cosme Velho district today where we will board the cog-wheel train to the top of Corcovado Mountain. At the top, we will stand next to one of the Seven Modern World Wonders; The Statue of Christ the Redeemer.

Day 4, Wed, July 22: Today we learn about Rio’s rich African Heritage that has shaped an important chunk of Brazil’s History. This evening we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 5, Thu, July 23: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 6, Fri, July 24: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 7, Sat, July 25: This morning we tour old Rio before ascending Sugar Loaf. This evening we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 8, Sun, July 26: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 9, Mon, July 27: This morning we checkout from our hotel and are taken to the airport for our overnight flight back to the USA.

Day 10, Tue, July 28: Today we arrive back in the USA and continue to our hometown airport.

Itinerary 2, July 18 – 30

Rio de Janeiro, Manaus, & The Amazon

Day 1, Sat, July 18: Today we depart from the USA on our overnight flight.

Day 2, Sun, July 19: We arrive this morning in Rio, the so-called Marvelous City and the capital of Rio de Janeiro State and enjoy a special beach breakfast in Copa Cabana.

Day 3, Mon, July 20: We tour the Cosme Velho district today where we will board the cog-wheel train to the top of Corcovado Mountain. At the top, we will stand next to one of the Seven Modern World Wonders; The Statue of Christ the Redeemer.

Day 4, Tue, July 21: This morning we tour old Rio before ascending Sugar Loaf.

Day 5, Wed, July 22: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 6, Thu, July 23: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 7, Fri, July 24: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 8, Sat, July 25: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 9, Sun, July 26: Following our time at BWA Celebration 2020 activities this morning, we will board our flight to Manaus and transfer to our hotel.

Day 10, Mon, July 27: Following a city tour of Manaus, we will transfer to our Amazon Ecopark Jungle Lodge. This evening we will board a boat at our lodge and have the change to appreciate the jungle at night.

Day 11, Tue, July 28: This morning we will board a double decker boat and travel down the Negro River. Along the way we will view the shore of Manaus and see The Meeting of the Waters, a spectacular merging of the Negro and Solimões Rivers.

Day 12, Wed, July 29: We begin today at the Monkey Forest before returning to the lodge. We will then board canoes with the chance to fish for piranhas or other local species. Tonight, we transfer to the airport in Manaus for our return flight to the USA.

Day 13, Thu, July 30: We arrive home in the USA today and continue to our hometown airports.

Itinerary 3, July 17 – 28
Rio de Janeiro & Iguassu Falls

Day 1, Fri, July 17: Today we depart from the USA on our overnight flight.

Day 2, Sat, July 18: We arrive this morning in Rio, where we board our next flight to Iguassu Falls.

Day 3, Sun, July 19: Today we visit Argentinean National Park where we have the chance to view Iguassu Falls.

Day 4, Mon, July 20: This morning we travel to the Brazil side of Iguassu Falls. Dinner tonight is at a local barbecue house where we will see a typical fold show which will include Samba, Tango and Paraguayan Music.

Day 5, Tue, July 21: Today we board our domestic flight to Rio de Janeiro- the so-called Marvelous City and capital of Rio de Janeiro State. We visit old Rio and ascend Sugar Loaf before returning to our hotel.

Day 6, Wed, July 22: We tour the Cosme Velho district today where we will board the cog-wheel train to the top of Corcovado Mountain. At the top, we will stand next to one of the Seven Modern World Wonders; The Statue of Christ the Redeemer.This evening we attend the opening session of the BWA
Celebration 2020.

Day 7, Thu, July 23: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 8, Fri, July 24: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 9, Sat, July 25: Today we learn about Rio’s rich African Heritage that has shaped an important chunk of Brazil’s History. This evening we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 10, Sun, July 26: Today we attend BWA Celebration 2020 activities.

Day 11, Mon, July 27: Today we visit one of the most famous Samba School’s warehouse, Grande Rio, before having the opportunity to eat at a local barbecue house. Next we will be taken to the airport for our overnight flight back to the USA.

Day 12, Tue, July 28: We arrive home in the USA today and continue to our hometown airports.
