Our trip to Romania is right around the corner. It’s been a long wait since applying for this trip in January. So much so, that it almost does not feel real. A few weeks ago, our whole team was able to meet and get to know each other in Richmond. Meeting my team and learning more about Romania has made me even more excited to embark on this journey.
Preparing for Romania has been a journey all its own. We have been told vaguely what we are doing, but as one of my teammates said, “We have to be prepared to not be prepared, ready for anything that comes our way.” In the rush of finishing summer classes, jobs as wells as packing, I have had to be extra diligent to have my time with the Lord preparing my heart for this trip so that while I am with the Roma People they can see God’s love through me and my team. This summer, God has already taught me a lot about trusting him even when times are hard and knowing that when I am afraid and weak, he will be my strength. In my weekly Bible study, we looked deeply into Isaiah 41, and how this passage speaks to us. Verse 10 spoke most loudly to me.
“Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
This verse has been a tremendous comfort to me as I finish out the last few errands before going to a country I have never been to. This reminds me that I have nothing to fear, when I am tired and want to go home or am confused, or just dealing with culture shock. God will be with me always. He will be my energy and my strength. I am beyond excited to see this in my time in Romania!
