“Even though we have made distinctions between different flavors of Impact, like Impact Virginia, Impact Metro, most people know them simply as Impact”, said Glenn Maddox, Impact Mission Camps Coordinator.
He added, “It’s our hope that this rebranding gives greater emphasis to the real purpose of Impact, which is Mission. We stress that no matter what their work for the week is, whether it’s construction, social ministry, or serving alongside people from another country, our mission is the people – the community we serve.”
The rebranding effort includes a new logo and website, ImpactMissionCamps.org. The website contains stories and pictures from 2015, information about the 2016 camps, and will host individual devotional resources for students to help them reflect on how God might use them outside the one week at Impact.
Impact Mission Camps takes the burden of logistics off churches, while allowing the participants to build relationships between each other and God. “Our hope is that students are constantly reflecting on how God is moving while they are at camp, and that they aren’t just driving nails without thinking about why they are doing it,” Maddox said.
Next summer, campers will have seven options from which to choose, including two camps in Romania alongside the partnership between Virginia Baptists and the Romanian Baptist Union. Campers will work alongside Romanian youth in various ministries in Bucharest and Bistrita.
“It is always a joy to witness our partnership with other countries evolve in such a way that we are sharing these types of experiences together,” said Dean Miller, team leader for Glocal Missions. “God does amazing work through the lives of young people and challenges them to continue to break down barriers and hear their calling to follow Christ.”
Craig Waddell, missions partnership coordinator, added that “Impact gives us another opportunity to live out our partnership’s theme, Together For Others.”
Additionally, Impact Mission Camps will have locations in Chesterfield, Orange, Wise, and Saluda. Impact will return to Averett University in Danville for a third year in a row, this time for an immersive social ministry experience.
New churches who sign up for a Virginia camp will receive free registrations for adult chaperones, with 1 per 6 youth, up to 5 total.
