I have been blessed in the fact that for the past twelve years I have seen God change the lives of students through student ministry.

As a youth minister at both Chesterfield Baptist Church and Bon Air Baptist Church, I have had the great privilege of planning retreats, mission projects, and worship experiences that get teenagers serving others and coming closer to God.

One of my favorite retreats of the year is our Student Ministry Fall Retreat where we as a multi-site church all come together and descend upon Camp Piankatank in November.

Camp Piankatank Summer Camp & Conference CenterWhy Camp Piankatank?

Because it is a great location that is off the beaten path.  I have had Camp Piankatank host our Fall Retreat for the past three years and our students love it and here are the reasons why.

First, of all Camp Piankatank is off the beaten path so there is plenty of room for teens to run, have fun, and we not worry about them leaving the camp. Plus with so much room, ropes, course, climbing wall, lake, and v-swing at such low costs; there is always something to do for our students.

Second, there food is really great as well as their new cabins which are clean and comfortable.  Third, the staff is great and flexible when working with churches to accommodate us as best as they can.

We have brought in bands, had great worship services, hosted large capture the flag games, and bon fires; and everything went perfect. What more could you ask for?

Each year our students beg to go back to Camp Piankatank – so we do and we are never disappointed.

So if you are a minister looking for a great location to host a weekend retreat, I can think of no better a location.

More about Camp Piankatank:

Camp Piankatank Summer Camp and Retreat Center seeks to be a place where children, youth, and adults can enjoy God’s creation along the Piankatank River in a Christian retreat environment that encourages physical, spiritual, social, and emotional growth.”

camp-piankatank-sailingCamp Piankatank is a Christian summer camp and retreat center owned by the Baptist General Association of Virginia, and located on the beautiful Piankatank River.

Throughout the year Camp Piankatank is available for many different kinds of retreats, and hosts events for all non-profit groups, not just Baptist groups.

We offer custom quotes to fit your needs, and we can do as little or as much as you would like us to do. From simply giving your Boy Scout troop a place to pitch some tents, or helping you plan your weekend retreat (with food, lodging, activities, and even a speaker) we are available to help.

Our goal is to glorify God by pointing others to Him, whether that’s through our summer camp program, or through the retreats that we plan or host.
