News & Notes from across the BGAV for October 24, 2014

Mill Creek Baptist Church holds a celebration service for former pastor, Dr. Randy McDaniels. Randy resigned after a significant stroke reduced his ability to pastor the church. (Photo credit: John Powell)

It’s hard to believe that 2014 is marching on. We pray that everyone’s fall festivals and Trunk or Treats go well here in the next week or so.

Please note: the BGAV Annual Meeting in Hampton, VA is in 2 weeks. There is still time to make plans to come to this very important meeting. Find out more information here and then register to attend.

Below are a few items happening across the BGAV as we advance the Kingdom together:

Please pray for associations and WMU groups across the Commonwealth as they have their fall meetings. We can do more together for the Kingdom than apart. We’re thankful for the work and mission of associations.

Mill Creek Baptist Church had a Celebration Service for Dr. Randy Daniels on Sunday, October 12, 2014. Randy began his ministry at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Fincastle, Virginia  in November of 2001. There was lots of his favorite music sung and the congregation shared fond memories.

A sign was presented to Randy dedicating a Bible Study and Conference Room in his name. Under Randy’s leadership the church experienced significant growth.  Two worship services were needed to make room for all who wanted to come to  services.

Mill Creek also built a new educational building and fellowship hall under Dr. Daniel’s guidance which was just finished this spring.

Randy was very musically talented and lent his talents to many ministries at Mill Creek using his voice and guitar skills.

Sadly, Pastor Randy suffered a massive stroke on Thursday, March 27,2014. Because of the limitations the stoke has put in Randy’s life he felt it necessary to resign effective September 30, 2014.

Mill Creek thanks Randy for 13 years of preaching God’s word boldly and for loving and caring for us in every situation.

Our prayers are with both Randy and his family and Mill Creek as new chapters are written.

All proceeds will go to their work with Feed My Starving Children, which we covered earlier this year.

Many of our churches gather together in absolutely beautiful settings.

Staff3Culpeper Baptist Church recently welcomed Dr. Dan Carlton as its pastor. Previously he served at two other BGAV churches, most recently Downtown Baptist (Alexandria) and before that Spring Hill Baptist (Ruckersville).

Dan serves on the Board of Trustees at Averett University, the Board of Fresh Expressions, US and is 2014 Chair of the BGAV Program Committee.

Two articles were written about his arrival to Culpeper, one by the Culpeper Times and another by the Culpeper Star Exponent.

We pray for Dan, Culpeper Baptist, and Downtown Baptist during this time of transition.

The V3 Church Planting Movement, Virginia Baptist’s church planting organization, recently held a learning cohort in Richmond.

Church planters had a time to learn from one another as well as to learn more about the BGAV.

Virginia Baptist staff heard stories from the church planters about the work and ministry being done all over the country.
