As I get out of the eight hour plane ride with the smallest television screen I have ever seen in my entire life, I stretch out my legs that seem to creak since the last time they were used. I step out into the little transport car from the plane itself to the airport and all I see are gray skies and beautiful rain drops clinging on to any window they can find.
I go through customs, then security, and am surrounded by the wonderful language of French where the only thing I know to say is bon jour and merci. I walk around aimlessly, waiting to find out where my gate is for the next flight. But it’s 8:30am here (2:30am in the States) and I won’t find out till 10:15am – so what does that mean? Explore, reflect, and recharge.
This life we have is a journey – so cliché, I know. But the beautiful thing about this journey is the fact that we don’t go through it alone – we’ve got God on our side. As I explore the airport, I look forward to exploring the opportunities that will be presented to me in Lebanon. I’m expectant for God’s hand to show up in ways that I can literally never imagine. I have hope in the Lord that He will continue to reveal himself to me and many others as I spend a month in this beautiful country I’ve never stepped foot in.
With so much alone time, I can’t help but thank God for how all of this has played out. I ask him, “God, who am I to be sent? You really don’t need me, yet you still chose to send me.” And God responds with one of my favorite verses, Colossians 3:12:
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved…”
Dude, God chooses us. He knows every fiber of our body. He knows our past, our present, our future, and despite all the mess ups we’ve made, he uses us no matter how broken we are or may have been. Our God is forgiving and loving – so much so that I will never fully be able to comprehend. But that’s okay, because that’s the best part about following Jesus, we continue to follow, grow, and learn more about Him without ever getting bored!
As I walk around the airport looking for any sort of charging station for my phone, I decide to sit down at a café and use my computer to charge the phone. Just like my phone, I too need to recharge and prepare myself because in 6 hours, I’ll be landing in Beirut – TOO EXCITED.
I decide to read chapter 3 of Daniel to continue my study of this book and man oh man – IT IS SO GOOD! The king has recognized that Daniel’s God (our God) is super awesome yet he builds a golden image that everyone must worship. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel’s friends and colleagues) don’t bow down, the king gets mad and throws them into a fiery furnace to die.
Now if you can, read Daniel 3:24-30. It is so powerful to witness the astonishment of King Nebuchadnezzar and then for him to recognize how awesome God really is. I pray that I may have faith like these three men and that people all around can see how marvelous God truly is, just like the king saw how powerful and awesome God is.
