The world was shocked by the devastating explosion that rocked Beirut on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. We have all seen the pictures and videos circulating and it was obvious that the damage would be severe. Our prayers are with the people of Lebanon as they move forward with recovery.

Virginia Baptists have long been friends and ministry partners with the Lebanese Society for Educational and Social Development (LSESD). Since 2019, LSESD has also been a part of the BGAV’s focus:refugees partnership, bringing awareness and resources to the plight of forcibly displaced persons around the world.

In addition to multiple opportunities for Virginia Baptists to “pray, give, and go” to Lebanon, our Venturer Program is sending a long-term volunteer to assist the LSESD for two years. Julia Wallace is a recent graduate of Truett Seminary and will depart for Beirut in mid-August. She will assist with development, communication, and whatever the current needs are.

As we pray for our brothers and sisters in Lebanon, let us also pray for Julia’s transition into the new role with LSESD as well as for her safety!
