Mission Trip to Bland Ministry Center
Thirteen people from the James River Baptist Association served at the Bland Ministry Center in Bland, VA, May 15 – 21, served in various capacities. Some worked at the ministry center by mowing grass; unloading food and clothing; shelving food in the food warehouse; unpacking and sorting clothes donations; repacking and shelving clothes; and assisting with the weekly food and clothing distribution. About 80 families received food and clothing.
Six team members worked on construction by completing four handicapped ramps during the week and installing a stove in the volunteer house. Two team members worked in the dental clinic at the center: one serving as receptionist and one as a dental assistant. Seventy-eight patients were treated for dental care. All team members appreciated the opportunity to share God’s love through word and deed.
In addition, the JRBA collected plastic shopping bags, peanut butter, Campbell’s soup labels, dental floss, copy paper, men’s jeans and other items for the ministry center. Some member churches donated funds to help the team with expenses and JRBA, as well as some member churches donated funds to the center’s Blue Envelope Project for construction supplies.

Together, the JRBA churches and individuals raised $9,091.14. This amount was supplemented with $500 from the Baptist General Association of Virginia.
Since 2010, JRBA has packaged 186,869 meals at a cost of $48,800.65 to help feed the hungry in Haiti, Uganda, the Philippines, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, and the Ivory Coast.
