On February 5, 2017, team members from the Appomattox Baptist Association team spent the morning in churches around Yendi. Rev. Adam Tyler (Grace Hills Baptist Church) brought a message at the “mother church” of Ditney Baptist in Yendi, joined by Heather Swanberg and Diane Lee (Providence Baptist Church). Other ministers and laypersons shared the Gospel and preached the Word of God in churches around the area, including one church planted by this same team earlier in the week.
These churches are led by pastors recruited from the community in which they are planted. New Christians themselves, they need some support and training to fulfill their high calling. One way this team helped with that task was by offering two 2-day classes for pastors. One of the team members who led those classes, Rev. Scott Curtis of Providence Baptist Church in Red House, reflected on the experience Sunday afternoon:
When I was asked to teach the pastors about 1 Corinthians, I was honored and excited. I looked forward to the focused study and the challenge of teaching in that manner. What I did not consider was the impact that these young pastors would have on my own life. The class was great, but I believe I learned more from them than they did from me! For 2 days we studied, discussed, and worked in groups. As I look back at my time with them, the moments I will cherish the most are when they would ask questions about the passage and how their church was experiencing a similar issue. The friendship and life lessons we worked through together will have a lasting impact on my life and ministry.
