Hurricane Florence: Virginia Baptist Disaster Response Update

Updated: 9/21/18 at 5:00pm.

Are you looking for a tangible way to help our neighbors in North Carolina who are still experiencing flooding from Hurricane Florence?

We still need folks to Pray, Give, and Go (see posts below), but we are also starting to collect Flood Buckets to supply homeowners with the things they need to clean up their own homes after the flooding.

For now, please assemble the flood buckets and collect them at your churches. A plan is being devised for collection and distribution, and that information will be shared here next week.

Click here to find a list of items with instructions for how to fill a flood bucket. Thank you for all the ways you give generously as we seek to minister to our neighbors who’ve been affected by the storm.

As of 6:30 pm yesterday (September 20), our current response in Washington, NC, reports:

349 volunteers

3,024 volunteer hours served

24,704 meals served

Updated: 9/19/18 at 2:30pm.

As of the end of the day yesterday (Tuesday, September 18), these were our DR statistics related to our current response that’s underway in Washington, NC since Hurricane Florence:

1,528 volunteer hours served

14,855 meals served

Value of services provided: $116,325

Please continue to Pray. Give. Go.

Yesterday we sent 30 volunteers to Washington, NC, and distributed 1,500 meals along with our partners from the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and community feeding sites. We’ve started assessing cleanup needs, and the first cleanup crews will arrive there tomorrow. Please continue to pray for the safety of the volunteers and for all the needs of our neighbors in North Carolina who’ve been affected by the storm and flooding.

Here’s how you can help:

PRAY. Pray for those who are affected by the storm–both now and in the days ahead. Pray for the volunteers who are preparing to go and respond, and continue to pray for their safety when they travel and begin their work. Check back here for updates as we become aware of more specific prayer needs.
