Virginia Baptist Disaster Response Update

virginia baptist disaster responseVirginia Baptist Disaster Response and BGAV leaders continue to monitor the ongoing situation in southeast Texas as a result of Hurricane Harvey. The first teams have arrived in Liberty, Texas, to begin cleaning up homes damaged in the flood.

Disaster Response Coordinator Aaron Lee reports the following BGAV teams on the ground in Liberty, Texas, where they are working alongside First Baptist Church, Liberty:

  • Mission Development Coordinator Dean Miller is serving as Advanced Logistics officer, with an assessment team and admin support.
  • A flood clean-up team from the Southwest Region representing Clinch Valley, New Lebanon, Powell River and Wise Associations arrived September 6.
  • Members from the Crisis Care Team arrived September 6 to provide emotional and spiritual support to survivors.
  • Additional teams will continue responding in the coming weeks

We are also monitoring Hurricane Irma and determining how best we can serve those affected by the storm.
