Recently Winfree Memorial Baptist Church in Midlothian, VA, celebrated the 10th anniversary of their pastor, Dr. David Benjamin.
Winfree Church, constituted in 1852 and renamed in 1925 to honor two former pastors by that name, has been on mission to reach its community for Christ ever since its founding.
As they reflected on their last ten years under David’s leadership, they noted how he has continued to help the church follow God’s call in many new and relevant ways.
David is an avid runner, for example, and he uses that talent to work with nearby Midlothian High School’s track team as a mentor and coach. The church often welcomes the track team to use their facilities for meetings and such.
A former missionary in the Philippines and Hong Kong, David has encouraged church members to reach beyond their community and into the world, as they’ve participated in packing meals for Rise Against Hunger and also in supporting a well-building project in Kenya.
Under David’s leadership, the church has grown in its attendance, in its budget, and in the magnitude of its outreach in relevant ways to the local community. One church member attributes the growth in part to David’s ability to listen to all sides, to discern wisely through prayer, and to diplomatically communicate and implement solutions—being relational and able to genuinely connect with people.
The members of Winfree Church look forward to many more years of David’s leadership!
