Bon Air Baptist Church A Place to Belong...A Place to Become Job Description: Children and Families Director Exempt, Full-time averaging 35 hours/week Immediate Supervisor: Lead Pastor Location: Onsite at 2531 Buford Road, Richmond, VA • Principal Functions: The Children and Families Director, under the guidance and visioning of the Lead Pastor, will build relationships with children and their families to help them grow in their understanding of God and will support parents as they nurture faith at home. This position will include discipling children and families through classes, events and programs, and ensuring alignment to Biblical principles and the Bon Air Baptist Church Statement of Faith. Duties to Include: Programming: • Works with the Lead Pastor to support ongoing programs and ministries for children (newborn – 5th grade) and their families • Plans strategically for new events, programs, discipleship opportunities and creates measures of success for evaluating events, programs and discipleship, to be reviewed at least annually • Leads the creation and implementation of strategies for bringing families with children into the church • Manages follow-up engagement with parents and guardians for all programming • Leads the creation and coordination of opportunities for children to participate in praise, worship and missions • Builds relationships inter-generationally across the church to form community • Works with the Communication Director to promote the ministry and programming through appropriate communication channels • Develops partnerships with parents and guardians through outreach and promoting initiatives to engage and educate parents on discipleship practices for children as well as providing resources for daily life and life experiences Leadership: • Recruits, equips and coordinates Children and Family Ministry volunteers • Ensures that all Children and Family Ministry volunteers, including teachers, agree with and promote the statement of faith as set forth in the governing documents of the church • Trains volunteers in safety and security measures annually and as new volunteers are onboarded • With other leaders, maintains a safe and secure environment for children at all times • Cultivates, coordinates, and encourages volunteers to promote hospitality, kindness, and a welcoming experience that fosters the church community • Disciples children and their families consistent with Biblical principles as the focus of the ministry • Supervises the Weekday School Director and Administrative staff Administrative: • Measure impacts of events and programming through growth metrics (spiritual, emotional) • Prepare and work within a ministry budget to utilize resources effectively • Attend weekly/monthly staff meetings, as directed • Work with the leadership of the Children and Family Ministry to develop, evaluate and keep current the policies and practices that guide the church’s Children and Family Ministry • Manage inventory of equipment and supplies • Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor Qualifications: • College degree or equivalent, with seminary degree preferred • Strong organizational and relational skills • Experience working with children and families • Experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, web site and social media, preferred • Demonstrated experience leading and working with volunteers or a staff preferred • Ability to pass background and reference checks • Ability to stand for extended periods, walk, bend, push, pull, and lift to 40 lbs. • Align with Bon Air Baptist Church’s beliefs; be a good faith representative • Creative visionary who takes initiative • Team player • Enthusiasm for working with children and families • Committed and growing relationship with Christ • Exhibits ethical behavior and good moral character in line with moral teachings and the statement of faith outlined in the Bon Air Baptist Church governing documents.
