The pastor shall be accountable to God and the leading of the Holy Spirit. The following duties are offered to assist the pastor to effectively minister to the church and community. The pastor, as the primary spiritual leader, shall offer leadership and be aware of and involved in all activities of the church; assist and prepare members for leadership roles and discipleship; establish a meaningful relationship with members and their families through periodic contact other than at church services; regularly visit members and prospective members, with special emphasis on the sick, shut-ins, and others in need; perform administrative duties in a timely manner; have special charge of the pulpit ministry, and in cooperation with the deacons, provide for a pulpit supply when he is absent; conduct religious services on stated and special occasions and administer ordinances; coordinate with individuals and committees to arrange for and conduct revivals and other special services; provide leadership to officers, committees and teachers; serve as an ex-officio member of all organizations and committees and insure they function as needed; participate in the Dan River Baptist Association and the local pastor’s conference; recognize that all age groups of the membership are equally important; actively promote and be involved in mission activities; call special meetings of the deacons, officers, or any committee, if necessary; inform the church of ministry activities and scheduled office hours; improve pastoral skills through continuing education; participate in an evaluation conducted by an annual review committee; and perform any other duties that pertain to the office of pastor.
