Meet the Baptist Collegiate Ministers from across Virginia campuses

July 24, 2024
This is some text inside of a div block.

Kairos Initiative, BGAV's ministry for college-age students and young adults, serves campuses across the Commonwealth of Virginia. As colleges begin to welcome students back for fall semester, learn more about each of Kairos' Baptist collegiate ministries and how your students and young adults can connect!

Do you have a student headed to college this fall? Submit their contact information so collegiate ministers can invite them to BCM activities on campus!

Shanice Fisher, Old Dominion University:

“College is a time of transition. During this period, we believe there are lessons that the Lord wants us to learn, which can only be fully grasped in the midst of change. This transitional space is crucial for shaping the character of God’s people and strengthening their trust in him. At ODU BCM, our aim is to provide each student and young adult with a sense of belonging as they learn and grow. We are committed to meeting them where they are and helping them discover their identities in Christ within a supportive community.”

Jeffrey Buffkin, The College of William & Mary:

“We are a vibrant, culturally diverse Christian community. Since 1926, we’ve sought to passionately worship God, inviting all into authenticity and deeper trust in Jesus Christ, serving global needs inspired by his compassion, and exploring servant leadership to prepare for lifelong service to the church and world. We encourage young adults toward discovery of their part in God’s story.”

Emma Hammond, University of Mary Washington (Center for Faith and Leadership):

“At the Center for Faith and Leadership, we are passionate about facilitating space for others to hear God’s voice and shepherding students as they grow in identity and maturity. We engage with scripture, share testimonies, and experience God through creativity and fun! The Center is not just a ministry, but a family that extends beyond the walls of the ministry building and into our homes in Fredericksburg.”

Cadance Tyler, Longwood University/Hampden-Sydney College:

"BCM at Longwood and Hampden-Sydney prides itself on a spirit of hospitality. All students are welcome to attend weekly home-cooked meals provided by local Baptist churches. Our building is open during the week for students to study or spend time with friends. We offer opportunities for discipleship, service, worship, and connection to local churches. If you need a home away from home, we’re here!”

David Petty, University of Virginia (Eunoia):

“Eunoia welcomes you. We are a Christian ministry at UVA dedicated to discipleship and the arts. We invite students to grow their art, show their art, or just come by and enjoy! Eunoia Live is our student-run stage and gallery of Christian art in words, image, and sound. At Eunoia we are living the Christian life together and learning how to share it . We care; we share; we send. Learn more at eunoiacville.com or submit your art at info@eunoiacville.com . We meet Monday nights at 7:00pm.”

Scott Anderson, James Madison University:

“The BCM at JMU is about getting to know Jesus more deeply and personally through mentorship and community. We seek to walk in the ways of Jesus, living like him, serving like him, and inviting others to do the same. We gather to read God’s word, share life authentically, worship, serve nationally and internationally on mission, and have a good time together. We believe that there is simply no better life than following Jesus.”

Chris Leeper, Radford University:

“Radford BCM seeks to make much of Jesus on the campus of Radford University. Creating disciples who make disciples is a top priority of our ministry. Our three core values here are worship, community, and mission. Our aim is to provide a space that brings healing, enables growth, and challenges students to walk deeper in their relationship with Christ. We are helping students be the church of today and training them to lead the church of tomorrow.”

Darrell Cook, Virginia Tech:

“At BCM at Virginia Tech, in all we do we aim to be ‘after God’s heart, in community, and on mission.’ We offer some incredible growth experiences like mission trips, retreats, leadership opportunities, and discipleship, but our most important starting point is our family group Bible studies. These family groups are where every year we see students grow in their walk with Jesus and develop rich, life-long friendships.”

Kairos also has ministries at these other campuses:

- Bluefield University (Mason West)
