Church Volunteers Help Piankatank Get Ready for the Camping Season
Many hands make lighter work
Ninety acres of property takes a lot of work to maintain! BGAV’s Camp Piankatank has 90 acres of land, 16 buildings, a pool, a dock, a full ropes course, and even its own island.
On March 8, 2025, 60 volunteers came together to help get the property ready for the 2025 spring retreat and summer camp season. Six local churches were represented in this mission.Projects included installing six new doors at our dining hall, installing 700 square feet of flooring in our pastor’s cabin, painting a shed, and replacing 30 light fixtures. Kids and their parents helped deep clean the cabins, remove graffiti, and complete 10 solid hours of landscaping work. Local caterer and camper parent, Salina, prepared lunch and dinner for the volunteers—and even donated the food.
Camp Director Steve Gourley said,“We couldn’t have completed all of this work with just our staff in a whole year. Today has been a huge blessing to us and to the camp. We want our camp to be a peaceful and inviting location, so that guests can focus on how God is moving in their lives. To do this, our property must be clean and well maintained. We are so grateful to everyone who came and helped us accomplish this goal.”
If your church is looking for a local mission project, Camp Piankatank has more jobs that we need to be completed. We are looking for individuals or groups with wood working experience, flooring knowledge, painting expertise, electrical skills, and most importantly a heart to serve. Typically, the camp provides the materials, and you provide your skilled time.
